Check Your Stopgap

Writer: Coleen HainesColeen Haines

Welcome back from the holidays, as I’m sure you’re all back in the office and getting back to business after the new year!

We recently discussed securing ALL your social media accounts...

Now we talk about WHO has access to today’s accounts you use when you’re out of the office on vacation, emergency leave, or if you no longer work at your current position. Who runs your page, while you're out? What would happen to certain accounts you secured for your agency (maybe not currently in use), but did that to save them trouble in the future, without policy guidelines in place?

Does your follow-up person know the correct policies or, will your social media accounts be left with no posts for an extended period of time? Remember, we’ve also talked about access does not equal expertise.

These are all concerns I discuss with folks at other agencies a lot, and concerns about our stopgaps as one-person operations, oftentimes. It’s often uncomfortable to discuss or plan for the future, but it’s something agencies need to be aware of and plan ahead for the “just in cases,” we all face in life.
