Secure Your Accounts

No, I’m not talking about online shopping, although securing those accounts is important, too. I’m talking about your current social media accounts and the ones you haven’t even created, yet.

Maybe you’re wondering, “Why would I create an account I don’t plan to use?” Because you don’t know what you’ll be using in a year or two to reach a new audience. You don’t know what the next, newest, hottest thing is to communicate short, meaningful content (it’s TikTok).

Do you have a TikTok account? Do you have a Twitch account? Pinterest? Snapchat?

Sure, you might not use those accounts right now, but you could in the future….and someone may already have registered those accounts under your agency name. Yes, this is a nightmare that can and does still happen, and it can also be a real pain to get those account names back in the hands of the right people who actually work for that specific agency/brand.

One present you should give yourself this Cyber Monday is to secure/register for all the accounts you can find. They don’t have to be “live/active” accounts, but you can get them registered in the right hands. Other questions you can ask yourself: Are you set up to archive posts for any public record requests? Do you have to update your social media policy to create new accounts?
