The last blog was about using visuals in a way to get noticed and seen. Here’s a little secret… No, you don’t need to be a Photoshop wiz to get this done. Having basic graphic design skills and utilizing platforms/software in an appropriate way are skills you should have to get your posts noticed and seen by your audience; on a regular basis, too.
I don’t have 20 hours to photoshop a photo for a magazine cover – nor do I do that, anyway. Look, I have respect for those professionals who possess those skills, but that is not the entire skillset I need for the position I have.
Putting words to a graphic is important, and the potential to linking outside with more information; “Grab them with the headline…” is something you should be thinking about, especially if you are linking to other information outside your social media platform, and not containing all the info inside that social media post. But it’s not just pretty pictures. Are your words matching your visual making sense enough for your audience?
I am a huge fan of Adobe software, do not get me wrong, as I do use it for projects, when warranted. But, for day-to-day work, I can always rely on online platforms that also link all my work to an in-phone app. It does boil down to all the skills and respect that come with the position of wearing so many hats – graphic design, messaging, web capabilities, and wisdom (not knowledge) of all those things and more.
Knowledge is knowing how to post something to an online platform. Wisdom is knowing if and when it’s appropriate, and how do to it in a way that reaches your audience.
Reaching specific demographics is a conversation we’ll have coming up, because companies gather research on the topic every day. I’ll show you recent data and places to target, depending on who you're trying to communicate.
Gen X? Millennials? Gen Z?
